The reviews posted on this site originally appeared in the Keene Sentinel and the Brattleboro Reformer. What you see here are lightly edited versions, if edited at all, of CD and DVD sets that I feel have some wide appeal to my readers and are still available in stores or certainly online as “used and new.”

Since my specialty is theatre and not musicology, my reviews of operas concentrate more on the productions than the singing, the latter being left to my betters in that field. My absolute dislike for “concept” stagings of operas (and of Shakespeare) strongly influences my opinions. But they are my opinionsĀ and should be taken as so, no more or less, and not facts.

The essays come from past issues of Art TimesĀ and are used with permission of the publishers.
